In-Service CE: CASA Self Care

Presenters: Rachel Ashleman, LMFT and Karina Garcia, MSW - Kids and Families Together
Objective: Participants will learn about Vicarious Trauma and other related terms, risk factors, symptoms, prevention/intervention, how to build personal resilience, and the importance of self-care. Participants will complete a self-care assessment and create a self-care plan.
Goal: Increase awareness and create dialogue of Vicarious Trauma and its implications; increase motivation to build personal resilience and implement self-care plan.
Rachel Ashleman, LMFT - Rachel graduated from California Lutheran University and is currently the In-Home Program Manager at Kids & Families Together. Rachel has been working with children and families involved in the child welfare system for the past 5 and ½ years providing therapeutic support from a trauma-informed and attachment-focused approach. Rachel recently started an attachment-based Animal-Assisted Therapy program at Kids & Families Together and is also a therapist at Moorpark College and has a private practice in Thousand Oaks.
Karina Garcia, MSW - Karina graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and is currently working toward becoming an LCSW. Karina is a therapist and manager at Kids & Families Together and has been working with Kids & Families Together for five years. In a past job at a children's residential facility, Karina was part of Trauma-Informed Care Committee which guided the agency's effort in becoming a trauma-informed organization.
