CE: California's Housing Programs for Transition-Age Current & Former Foster Youth: How Youth Fared in 2018-2019 & Future Policy Implications
Please join John Burton Advocates for Youth on Thursday, October 3, 2019 for a web seminar from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., marking the release of the 2018-19 THP-NMD & THP-Plus Annual Report. Together, these two programs are serving more than 3,500 youth on any given day.
The webinar will highlight key findings and recommendations in a number of areas including:
• The impact of the housing crisis which has resulted in a 53% increase in the waiting list size for THP-Plus and an outpaced statewide rate for THP-NMD;
• Addressing higher service needs of special populations and involuntary exits;
• Improving post-secondary educational outcomes;
• Improving awareness and access to the California Earned Income Tax Credit;
• Increasing access to reproductive and sexual health services, information and understanding rights; and
• Supporting parenting youth, who, in THP-NMD and THP-Plus collectively had nearly 700 children living with them as of June 30, 2019.
And for the first time, this year's report will feature a new statewide inventory of THP-Minor programs for 16- and 17-year-olds. Please join us to learn more.
