Trauma-Informed Care Foundations: Building Safe, Resilient Environments for Staff and Clients

Wednesday, October 1, 2025
10:00 am12:00 pm

Presented by CALTRIN
During this two-hour webinar, participants will explore the foundations of trauma-informed care and how they can be applied across a variety of child- and family-serving settings. The presentation will define trauma and trauma-informed care, explain how trauma impacts both clients and staff, and introduce the six guiding principles that shape a trauma-informed approach.
Participants will learn how to foster safety, trust, and empowerment—both in direct service and within their organizational culture. Key topics will include creating a safe and supportive environment for staff and clients, integrating practices that strengthen psychological safety, and addressing secondary traumatic stress at both the individual and organizational levels. The session will also highlight the importance of culture and climate in sustaining trauma-informed practices over time, with strategies for building resilience and consistency across teams.

Throughout the session, attendees will be encouraged to reflect on their own role in this work, identify small but meaningful changes they can make, and consider how everyday actions—no matter their position—can contribute to a healthier, more supportive, and trauma-responsive environment.

Participants will be able to:

Identify the six guiding principles of trauma-informed care and name at least two ways each principle can be applied in child- and family-serving settings
List at least three strategies for creating a safe and supportive environment for both staff and clients within an organizational culture
Explain the difference between primary trauma, secondary traumatic stress, and burnout, and identify at least two interventions to address secondary traumatic stress at the individual and organizational levels
Select at least three practical actions they can personally implement within their role to strengthen trauma-informed practices and promote resilience in their work setting
