Power Hour! Runaway Behavior in Foster Care
Presented by Ventura and Oxnard College FKCE
When a youth in care runs away, it can leave caregivers feeling worried, helpless, and unsure of what to do next. As a resource parent, learn how to respond in a trauma-informed manner by first understanding the deeper reasons behind runaway behavior—including the emotional, psychological, and trauma-related factors that often lead a young person to flee. Through real-world strategies and open discussion, you'll learn how to recognize warning signs, gain practical tools to respond and prevent runaway behavior, and develop a proactive safety plan with your youth in care. Together we'll gain valuable resources and create a home environment rooted in trust, empathy, and belonging—so teens know they are seen, heard, and supported, even when they’re struggling.
