Strategies for Smooth Daily Transitions
Presented by Ventura and Oxnard College FKCE
Trainer Dr. Judy Sullivan Osterhage
For many children in care, even small changes—like moving from playtime to bedtime or switching homes, schools, or routines—can feel overwhelming. This class helps resource parents understand why transitions are often difficult for children who have experienced loss, trauma, or uncertainty, and how to guide them through these moments with empathy and structure.
Together, we’ll explore how developmental stages, temperament, and trauma impact a child’s ability to handle change, and discuss simple, trauma-informed strategies to support them. Learn how to use predictability, routines, and clear choices to reduce power struggles, ease anxiety, and build trust.
From morning routines and bedtime transitions to school changes and family visits, you’ll leave with practical tools to create smoother days and a stronger connection with the children in your care—because when kids feel safe and supported, they can begin to thrive.
