Parentification: Understanding Hyper-Independence in Foster Care
Presented by FKCE
Instructor: Dr. Judy Sullivan Osterhage
Explore the connection of hyper-independence and parentification as a trauma response in this newly developed training. Begin by learning the causes that lead to these specific types of of trauma responses and why hyper-independence and kids taking on a parent role can be common in foster care. You'll gain an understanding of common "seen and unseen" characteristics in hyper-independence, and dive into the types of parentification roles a child and teen may display. After developing an understanding of causes and impacts, you'll learn in what ways you can respond to help your child release the concern of control and what support systems and programs are available specifically for teens seeking healthy independence.
