Education & Foster Care
Presented by FKCE
Instructors: Laura Welbourn and Cristina Acosta, VCOE
In whichever grade your child is in, it's important to recognize their right to an equitable and positive educational experience as a youth in or formerly in foster care. Join our partners from the Ventura County Office of Education to review the educational entitlements and resources available to youth in foster care. Participants will dive into the legal rights of a child such as the educational rights holder and right to a school of origin, and their available resources and how to access them!

VCOE Foster Youth Services Program is designed to meet the mandates under AB854 to improve the educational outcomes for foster youth. Foster Youth Services Coordinating (FYSC) Programs provide support services to foster children who suffer the traumatic effects of displacement from family and schools and multiple placements in foster care. Their services are designed to improve the children's educational performance and personal achievement, directly benefiting them as well as providing long-range cost savings to the state.
