Importance and Impact of Modeling - Social Learning Theory
Presented by FKCE
Instructor: Dr. Judy Sullivan Osterhage
From birth through adulthood, we learn who we are and how to navigate the world by watching the people around us. In this engaging new training from one of our most popular instructors, explore how Social Learning Theory connects directly to your caregiving approach, and how you can use that connection to foster resilience and healing in the children and youth in your care.
Children are remarkably perceptive. The behaviors, attitudes, communication styles, and even the unspoken ways we respond to stress and challenge don't go unnoticed. For children and youth who have grown up in households marked by trauma, this dynamic takes on even greater weight. Adapting to environments defined by violence, abuse, maladaptive coping, or helplessness, teaches the developing brain to stay in protection and survival mode. These early experiences can manifest as emotional dysregulation, disruptive or withdrawn behavior, and other survival-based patterns that are hard to shift — but not impossible.
By bringing intention and awareness to your caregiving, you have the power to rewrite the script. When you create a household that is safe, predictable, and grounded in positive modeling, you give the children and youth in your care something they may have never had. Join us to model a new blueprint for life built on connection, regulation, resilience, and hope.
