Common Mental Health Diagnoses in Foster Care
In this training, participants will learn the common signs/symptoms of the top diagnoses for children in out-of-home care. Participants will understand the effective treatment modalities that caregivers could implement.
By the end of the class, participants will be able to:
Identify at least 3 key symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD and ADHD in children and teens in out of home care.
Explain how trauma, neglect and frequent placement changes contribute to mental health symptoms.
Demonstrate at least 2 trauma-informed strategies for responding to children's mental health needs and collaborate effectively with mental health professionals to stabilize behaviors.
PLEASE NOTE: For your convenience, join us for Part 1 only from 6-7:30pm or stay for the entire three hours. Credit will be provided based on hours attended.
Your Instructor: Lori Switanowski has been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 30 years! She is an adoptive mom, an FKCE Program Director alumni and founder of Our Family Comes First, specializing in working with traumatized children and their families. She teaches parenting classes throughout the state of California and Texas. She brings a wealth of both personal and professional experience with her.
