Educational Advocacy: Special Education: Assessments, Services & Supports
Presented by FKCE and VCOE
Join us in this special partnership with the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE) and Ventura County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) to discover and navigate the resources and benefits your youth can receive from their educational program. Our partners from SELPA will thoroughly examine and explain special education services and processes, including the timelines and assessments. Moreover, by learning about the rights and laws connected to an educational rights holder and students, this training will position participants to become a strong advocate for their students in receiving the proper accommodations necessary. Gain resources, updated information, and more in this portion of Educational Advocacy in Foster Care training.

VCOE Foster Youth Services Program is designed to meet the mandates under AB854 to improve the educational outcomes for foster youth. Foster Youth Services Coordinating (FYSC) Programs provide support services to foster children who suffer the traumatic effects of displacement from family and schools and multiple placements in foster care. Their services are designed to improve the children's educational performance and personal achievement, directly benefiting them as well as providing long-range cost savings to the state.
Ventura County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) is a branch of the Ventura County Office of Education that provides for the special education service needs of children in Ventura County. This branch created and dedicated to ensure that students with disabilities have access to quality special education and related services and does so by providing information and support to families of children with disabilities so that they can be informed partners in the education of their children.
