CE: Combating Human Trafficking: Local Efforts on a Global Issue
This event focuses on human trafficking as an issue relevant at the local level. Often hidden in plain sight, this tragic human rights issue threatens public safety in our community, especially for women and children.
A screening of the award-winning documentary “Break the Chain,” highlighting human trafficking survivors, will be shown, followed by a panel of community members who have worked to eliminate the practice and provide support to those affected in our area.
Panel members include: Ventura County Undersheriff Gary Pentis, who has conducted sting operations to capture traffickers in Ventura County; Christan Perez, who works in crisis response and providing emergency shelter as the Program Manager of the HEART program at Interface Child and Family Services; and Debbie Gohlke, a member of the Soroptimists International of Oxnard, who has been at the forefront raising awareness about this issue in our county.
