CE: An Introduction to Trauma Informed Care
Trainer: Judi Drouin, LMFT
This is an introductory workshop on trauma, how it affects children and what caregivers can do differently to support children exposed to trauma. When trauma occurs early in life, the organization and development of the child's brain is adversely affected. This initial workshop will define trauma and explore how the brain is impacted. It will raise the participants' awareness of risk factors, symptoms and behaviors connected with childhood trauma. Participants will be introduced to strategies that will help regulate their child to prevent or minimize challenging behaviors. Class will be taught by Judi Drouin who has held a license in Marriage & Family Therapy since 2005. Her undergraduate work was in child development. She earned a post graduate certificate in Infant-Parent Mental Health and is currently enrolled in the Child Trauma Academy Certificate program with Dr. Bruce Perry. Parent-child relationships and children who have experienced trauma is the focus of her private counseling practice here in Ventura County. Empowering parents and advocating for children is her passion. Judi is the mother of 4 children and 12 children call her Grammy.
