CE: Set Up for Success: Supporting Foster Youth College Transition
Presented by: Debbie Raucher
In today's economy, completion of a post-secondary credential, whether a vocational certificate, associate's degree, bachelor's degree or beyond is essential for those entering the work force. Despite this, only eight percent of foster youth successfully obtain a degree. This webinar will provide strategies that CASAs can use to ensure that foster youth can successfully transition into post-secondary education and attain their educational goals. Topics to be covered will include approaches for encouraging a college-going culture, demystifying the matriculation and financial aid processes and how to ensure that foster youth are linked to the range of supports available at college so that they are set up for success before they transition to a post-secondary setting. The webinar will also point you to online resources that can be used to support youth through the planning, application and matriculation processes, including information about how to assist youth to enroll in industry-recognized certificate programs in hundreds of vocational programs available across the state.
