Foster Kids---An overview of the Foster Care System and How you can help

Mandee Sanderson graduated from Pepperdine School of Law in 1988. Prior to graduation she served as a law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office, the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office and the Law Firm of O’Neill & Lysaught. After graduation, Mandee joined the Ventura county District Attorney’s Office from 1989 to 1994. She was awarded the distinction of “Ventura County District Attorney of the Year” honors by the District Attorney’s office in 1991. From 1994 to 2012, Mandee was a partner in the Law Firm of Dunn & Sanderson, in Westlake Village. In 2002, Mandee started representing children in Dependency Court and Family Law Court. Since that time, she has represented over 1000 children in Ventura.

Susan Berns, a former practicing attorney, has been a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Ventura County since April 2008 and a Peer Coordinator since October 2013. Susan has developed an expertise in managing cases for transition-aged youth and non-minor dependents, especially where those cases involve youth seeking higher education or having complex legal issues. Susan is using her previous legal and non-profit management experience to provide her CASAs with extensive resources to assist their transitional teens and non-minor dependents, help plan for and teach trainings on CASA, educational, and non-minor dependent advocacy, and interface with county and state leaders to advance higher education options for foster youth. Susan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and a Juris Doctor degree from USC.

Wendy Homan has been married for 32 years to her best friend Beau, 9 children (3 biological, 6 gifts through adoption), 4 grandsons. Wendy has been a foster mom for 24 years and has cared for over 164 children most of them prenatally exposed infants and medically fragile infants.

Health & Wellness Ministry Lecture Series

This Seminar will be of interest to those curious about the foster care program, individuals thinking of providing foster care or support for foster youth and those who currently have foster children in their homes. The program is free of cost and refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP if you can at 805-482-1273. Walk-ins will be welcomed.
