In-Service CE: Mindfulness – Helping you and your Appointee Achieve Balance in Everyday Life

Wednesday, June 12, 2019
6:00 pm CDT8:00 pm CDT
CASA Office, 4001 Mission Oaks Blvd., Camarillo

Presenter: Jen Bailey, PsyD

This is a practical training focused on the practice of mindfulness in everyday life. Mindfulness is an experiential tool for decreasing emotional reactivity and increasing attention, focus, and enjoyment. Being able to maintain mindfulness can be crucial when dealing with challenging situations and environments. In this training I will teach simple skills that you can start to practice and apply right away, and that you can teach or model to your CASA youth. Most take only a few minutes at a time and can be done in almost any context -- driving to work, taking a test at school, sitting through a court hearing. These skills can also be applied to a number of interpersonal challenges. You will learn how to use the skill yourself and get tips for teaching and modelling it to others.

Bio: Dr Jen Bailey is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Camarillo, CA. She is also a former CASA and former CASA Case Manager. She has over 18 years of experience providing community support and counseling to youth, adults, and families. She has specialized training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a form of treatment that heavily emphasizes the use of mindfulness skills in managing emotions and interpersonal situations. In her practice she focuses on work with clients who have severe behavioral challenges, such as self harm and suicidality, and with members of the LGBTQ community, especially transgender and nonbinary youth and adults. She has presented across Ventura County and Los Angeles County in her areas of specialization. She is excited to return to her "roots" at CASA of Ventura County.
