CE: Beyond the Safety Net: Findings from the Initiative to Transform Housing Providers into College Success Programs
In 2017, John Burton Advocates for Youth (JBAY) launched Beyond the Safety Net, a two-year initiative to transform housing providers into college success programs. A cohort of 36 programs serving over 1,700 current and former foster youth and homeless youth worked toward goals based on a core practice model to improve their capacity to support youth with enrolling, attending and completing post-secondary education, including career and technical education. Please join JBAY for a web seminar sharing lessons learned from the two-year journey and implications for the future. We will be joined by a participating provider who will describe how their program implemented key changes over the course of the Initiative.
Discussion topics will include:
• How did programs transform during the initiative and what best practices and program policies did they adopt?
• In what areas did programs make considerable progress and where do challenges remain?
• What are the policy and systemic implications for addressing these challenges?
