In-Service: Sexual Identity (LGBTQ+) and STIs

Tuesday, October 20, 2020
6:00 pm8:00 pm

Presenters: Dahpne Sajor (she/her) and Mariele Ignacio (they/them)

Join us as we explore two different topics in one in-service.

Self-Identity is a 1 hour presentation that will go over how to use pronouns and the concepts of the gender unicorn, which is a tool created by the Trans Student Education Resources (TSER). The gender unicorn helps folks understand the difference between gender identity, gender expression, gender, sex assigned at birth and sexual orientation/attraction. By the end of this presentation folks should be able to identify different components that make up self-identity, explain the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation, name some common words that describe sex, gender, and sexual orientation as well as identify tools one can use to respect individuals within the LGBTQ+ community.

STIs 101 is a 1 hour presentation that will help folks assess their risk for STIs. This presentation focuses on prevention as opposed to going too in depth in any one STI. By the end of this presentation folks should be able to understand the 2 ways that STIs are transmitted and the various different behaviors that transmit STIs, assess their own risk factors to protect themselves and their partners, as well as identify prevention methods for STIs, such as barrier methods and medications.
