In-Service CE: Vicarious Trauma and Self Care
Vicarious trauma can be described as indirect exposure to a traumatic event through first-hand account or narrative of that event. Our advocates work with children and youth who have experienced traumatic events first-hand. The relationship that our advocates build with their appointees could subject them to secondary trauma. This in-service is designed to talk about this risk, prevention, and how to manage symptoms of vicarious trauma while educating our advocates on the importance of self-care and how that can be one of the main tools to combat and prevent vicarious trauma.
