Handling Emotions before, during & after Visits
Presented by Foster and Kinship Care Education
Instructor: Lori Switanowski
Children in out-of-home care act out significantly before, during, and after visitation. Participants will learn the "why" behind their child's behavior and how to help.
Managing all the emotions around visits can be challenging. Often times, caregivers experience children act out significantly before, during, and after visitations. There are no foolproof ways to guarantee that visits between children and their birth parents will be successful. By using past experience to inform about behaviors that may arise and utilizing trauma-informed techniques, it can not only help you to facilitate, but most importantly help your child prepare for the visit. Gain insights, tips and tools to help you and your children!
Part one from 6-7:30 will focus on strategies to build healthy relationships with birth families. Part 2 from 7:30-9pm will take a look at practical tools to use in setting healthy boundaries and building collaboration before, during, and after visits.
