CE: Towards Culturally Responsive Treatment: Increasing Awareness on Privilege, Racism, and Microaggressions
This training is designed for mental health professionals working with youth and families. Given the diversity that exists within the Unites States, it's essential to understand our cultural heritage as well as our clients'. Many times, one's culture can be overlooked in treatment, which becomes barriers in engaging the youth and their families. The training will include large group discussion, lecture, videos, and reflective journaling.
Course Learning Outcomes:
• List at least 3 examples of microaggressions
• Recognize at least on way they hold privilege
• Identify at least on way their privilege has been a barrier in their work
• Describe the concept of cultural humility
• Explain at least 2 strategies for providing culturally relevant services
About the instructor: Nicole Klasey, Psy.D. has worked in residential treatment for 13 years. She has consulted with agencies on trauma-informed care, programming for commercially sexually exploited children, and leadership development. She has authored staff development curriculum and has served as an expert witness in court trials. Nicole was recently awarded the State of California Senate Certificate of Recognition by Senator Joel Anderson. she also provides clinical supervision at a sexual assault center in Los Angeles.
